Meet precious young Agam, our extraordinary APE Achiever of the Month!
This young boy was rescued from villagers in Sumatra. When our team arrived to bring him to safety, they found him completely covered in a sticky latex sap. He was weak, scared and alone. He’d lost his mum and his forest home.
At approximately 2 years old, Agam has suffered immense trauma.
Our dedicated team treated Agam on site, applying a cleansing treatment to remove the sap. He was also given plenty of vitamins to help boost his immune system, and to speed up his recovery.
Now safe at our Sumatran Rescue Centre (SRA) in North Sumatra, Agam is progressing well. He’s calm, loves his babysitters, and is finding comfort with them as he desperately misses his mum.
As Agam settles in, he’s slowly getting to know the routine of his day. He knows exactly when it’s time for his carers to clean, when it’s time to eat and time to head out and play!
And boy does he love to eat! Bananas and papaya are his absolute favourites. He’ll often eat his snacks while climbing– multitasking legend!
The weather at the SRA centre has been very hot lately, and Agam and his fellow orangutan friends are really feeling the heat. To help bring some relief, the team has added more shade to protect them from the sun, and installed sprinklers to help keep them fresh and cool.
We are so incredibly grateful to you, our amazing supporters, for helping to bring Agam to safety. Thanks to you, he’s now on the road to recovery, and has a second chance at life. Agam has a long journey ahead of him, but with dedicated love and care, he will soon find his way back to forest freedom.
Thank you so much for being such a wonderful champion for orangutans like Agam! Your kindness is the difference orphaned orangutans like Agam need to once again be wild and free in the forest 💚
