Thanks to your wonderful support, our team has successfully relocated two precious orangutans to protected forest homes.
Here, they can live safe, healthy and free from harm!
Orangutans in isolated forests face daily threats, like habitat loss and human-wildlife conflict. With their lives at risk, it’s important that we monitor their safety, and protect them from harm. Our teams track orangutans by finding their nests, and looking for other signs like stripped tree branches. This is evidence of their foraging habits, and can help with locating orangutans in the forest.
Once an orangutan is found, our team assesses their safety. If an orangutan is at risk, they carry out a well-planned rescue mission. Once rescued, orangutans are given thorough medical checks to assess their condition. If they are deemed to be in good health, they are then relocated to protected forests, where they can thrive– safe, happy and free!
A Mission To Save Orangutans
During some recent routine monitoring near a village in Sumatra, our team discovered an isolated orangutan in need of rescuing. It was a challenging rescue mission, as the dense ferns surrounding his home created some difficulties for the team! But they persevered, and after three long days, he was finally brought to safety.
The large male was checked over by the veterinary team, before moving to his new home. Thanks to your support, he now lives in the protected forest in the village. We are happy to share that he is now free to live as she should– wild and safe from harm!
The second orangutan our team recently rescued was found living in a rubber plantation in yet another village. He has now been relocated to the forest in Jantho Nature Tourism Park in Aceh.
The photos below show the male orangutan as he was evacuated, and the very first moments he was released into his new forest home. Seeing rescued orangutans take their first swings into safety is a powerful reminder of why we do this important work.
Thank you for giving them safety and freedom!
A Future Of Hope
We are so grateful to you, our amazing supporters, for making these rescues possible. With your help, orangutans living in danger can be rescued and given a safe new home to roam freely.
Every orangutan protected is a step towards saving the species, and we can’t thank you enough for being here with us 🧡
