Thank you Dr Amy Myers

Our thanks to Dr Amy Myers for her generous contribution to the construction of the new BORA Rescue and Rehabilitation Centre. Dr Myers’ contribution provided significant support for the construction of the office building, and we’re naming the building in honour of her father: the Dr. James T. Myers Office Building.

Dr Myers says, “My father, Dr. James Townsend Myers, taught me the value of education, to put things back in their place when done, how to organize and always be prepared. He believed in me when I was struggling in school and life. He taught me to never give up, dream big and that I could be anything I set my mind to.

“My father helped to shape me into the person I am today. He was an author, a United States Air Force veteran, and a Distinguished Professor at the University of South Carolina.

“We both shared a love for orangutans. Growing up, our favorite animals to visit at the New Orleans zoo were the orangutans. On one visit to the zoo, my dad bought me a stuffed orangutan who I named Horace. Horace is still with me to this day. When my dad was in the hospital with autoimmune complications, I bought my father a huge life size Horace of his own to help spark some joy and bring him comfort when I wasn’t with him.”

Dr Amy Myers is a physician who received her Doctorate of Medicine from Louisiana State University Health Science Center in 2005. She was the founder and Medical Director at Austin UltraHealth from 2010-2018, where she helped thousands of patients with autoimmune, thyroid, and digestive issues reverse their conditions and reclaim their health.

Dr Myers originally discovered her passion for helping others while serving as a US Peace Corps volunteer in Paraguay, and decided to pursue medicine. While in medical school, she was diagnosed with Graves’ disease, an autoimmune thyroid condition, and because her conventional medicine doctors were unable to help her regain her health, she decided to embark on her own journey to healing. Along the way, Dr Myers made it her mission to help those who’ve also been failed by the conventional medical system to restore their own health and live their best lives.

Through her onliness business, Amy Myers MD, she is committed to giving back and has selected The Orangutan Project as one of three charities to support. In addition to donating a proportion of sales from purchases in her online store, customers can also contribute directly on checkout.

And now, thanks to her generous contributions, orphaned orangutans like Popi, Happi and Mary will be able to live their best lives. Thank you so much Amy!
